The Hunter Exam introduces us to:

The challenges are creative, the pacing is solid, and you immediately get attached to the main cast.
The only reason it's last is because every arc after this raises the bar even higher.
It's still a really enjoyable start.
6️⃣ Zoldyck Family Arc
This is one of the shortest arcs in the series, but it gives us our first real look into Killua's life.
And wow...
His family is... something else 😭
This arc focuses more on characters than action, showing us why Killua is the way he is.
It's not packed with huge battles, but it's an important stepping stone for one of the best characters in anime.
5️⃣ Heavens Arena Arc
This is where Hunter x Hunter truly begins to separate itself from other shonen.
Why?
Because this is where we learn about Nen.
And honestly...
Nen might be one of the greatest power systems ever created.
Instead of simply getting stronger through bigger attacks, characters learn strategy, limitations, and creativity.
The fights suddenly become much smarter.
By the end of this arc, you'll probably find yourself wishing every anime had a power system this well thought out.
4️⃣ Greed Island Arc
Let's be honest.
Greed Island gets way more hate than it deserves.
Sure, it isn't as emotional as some later arcs.
But it's still incredibly fun.
Watching Gon and Killua train, grow stronger, and explore a game that feels like a fantasy world is just enjoyable.
It also introduces new abilities, clever strategies, and some really satisfying fights.
Sometimes an arc doesn't need to be heartbreaking to be good.
Sometimes it just needs to be fun.
And Greed Island definitely is.
🥉 3. Yorknew City Arc
Now we're entering masterpiece territory.
Yorknew City completely changes the tone of the series.
The atmosphere becomes darker.
The stakes become higher.
And Kurapika finally gets the spotlight he deserves.
The introduction of the Phantom Troupe is one of the best villain debuts in anime.
Every member feels dangerous.
Every scene carries tension.
And the psychological battles are just as exciting as the physical ones.
For many fans, this is where Hunter x Hunter becomes unforgettable.

This might surprise some people 😭
A lot of fans rank this lower, but I genuinely love it.
Why?
Because it gives us something different.
Instead of nonstop fighting, we get politics, emotional reunions, and incredible character development.
It's also one of the most important arcs for Killua.
Watching him grow into someone willing to protect the people he loves is genuinely heartwarming.
And after everything that happened before this arc...
It gives viewers a chance to breathe.
Sometimes that's exactly what a story needs.

Was there ever really any doubt? 😭
The Chimera Ant Arc isn't just the best Hunter x Hunter arc.
Many anime fans consider it one of the greatest story arcs ever written.
At first, it seems fairly straightforward.
Then...
Everything changes.
The themes become incredibly mature.
The villains become surprisingly human.
The heroes are forced into impossible situations.
Characters evolve in ways nobody expects.
And the emotional payoff is absolutely incredible.
What makes this arc so special isn't just the action.
It's the questions it asks.
Who are the real monsters?
Can kindness exist in evil?
Can power alone solve everything?
By the end, you'll probably spend several minutes just sitting there thinking about everything you watched.
That's the sign of an unforgettable story.
🌸 Honorable Mention: Dark Continent Expedition (Manga)
While it hasn't been fully adapted into the anime yet, many manga readers are incredibly excited about the Dark Continent Expedition storyline.
The mysteries, world-building, and possibilities are honestly fascinating.
Hopefully one day we'll get to see it animated.
Because if it lives up to the hype...
Hunter x Hunter fans are in for something special.
🌿 So... Is There Actually A Bad Hunter x Hunter Arc?
Honestly?
Not really.
Some arcs are slower.
Some are darker.
Some focus more on adventure.
Others focus on psychology.
But each one contributes something meaningful to the overall story.

It constantly reinvents itself instead of repeating the same ideas.
